Men at Work!

21 05 2007

Djurgården’s Brunnsviken is the name of the little lake what I call my home water. It is now a construction site. It is were are building the tower that will lead to a great rowing race. That is a bit how I see it. A difficult tower to build. I needs a strong foundation. That we built during the winter during the countless hours on the rowing ergometer. Than it needs strenght, endurance, resitance to lactic acids, speed, and toughness. Some times something that you have been working on for a while suddenly comes crashing down on you. A cold or small injury feels like that.

This weekend’s racing resulted in two things….one that I felt like I was been run over by a truck on monday morning, and two: That I’m given a chance to measure my strenghts against the best in the world! on 30th of Maj we will be heading of to Linz, Austria, with oars painted with the triple crowns and guns drawn! Super exciting stuff, now two weeks of frantic training to increase toughness. Our team will exist of Frida Svensson on the ladies single, twins Sara and Lena Karlsson in the light weight double and Lassi Karinen and me in the single sculls.

The 38 km’s on the water today sort glide by so quickly. Every stroke has a meaning. I really hope to get a trouble free preperation now. Still a lot to do and improve…

Victory in the double

13 05 2007

For the first time this season I managed to slip over the finishline in a 2km race in front of Lassi. I was however sitting in the same boat with him… :-)
We doubled our training milage during our warmup and actually noticed that with every stroke it sort started feeling more and more like we were actually rowing the same boat. Our start was actually pretty good, and the other boats did not take a lenght on us we sort of counted on. Lassi stroked a steady 35,5 rate all the way in. For me it really felt like a really tough race, but it was nice to do a personal best time in the double 6:26 and the conditions were not fast. A light half tail wind. Good fun. Peter and Pontus did a good job and held on pretty wel. About 12 seconds behind.
Result of all the races can be found here. Read the rest of this entry »

The bar rises!

13 05 2007

Todays racing ended for me 2nd place 10 seconds again behind Lassi. A pretty good race for me. I could not really push myself to row as fast as I would like to go, but being were I am now and knowing what preperation I have had and I have still to do I am absolutely satisfied. A reasonable start wich put me along side Micke, Peter and Lassi. Micke and Peter a fast starters and Micke is know for his first 1000m.

Stockholm Farsta Regatta

12 05 2007

The heats have been rowed this morning.

I woke up att 07:30 after having been twisting around in my bed since 06:00. Louise made a great porridge and I ran two lazy laps around Humlegården. Stockholm’s central park.
Together with the leftovers from friday nights partygoers and some early bachelor party goers I enjoyed the queitness of the city centre.

2,5 hours later the start of our heat went and I managed to get away nicely! A good start, perhaps a meter in fron of Lassi. Peter shot of like an arrow and took a lenght. At 500m I was still working rather hard. Took a lenght on the people around me but had to see Lassi slide away. I let the rating go down to 30 and kept a nice steady state slowly pulling away from the rest. So did Lassi who by the 1500m mark started giving me boat wash (swell). No sprint, and glided in 13 seconds after the big man. The rest followed a bit after as they had all fallen of the throttle.

Lets see what happens in the final! It will be a tough hard race! Micke Nilsson is back, Peter seems quick, Pontus was quicker and Lassi I think is really fast! How about me? We will see Haha

David had a good heat put didnt hammer the throttle down as he thought that only the winner would proceed to final. It actually was first two and he was neck on neck with one of the Palm twins in 3rd.

Birgitta did a good race, but could not push herself to go for the 2nd place she needed to proceed to A final. She felt that she could have if she pushed harder, but decided not to….good tactics?. :-)

More later tonight!
