Report 1 from Turino
10 11 2006Friday 10th 19:30
Than suddenly I am standing in the bar of one of the larger rowing clubs in the heart of Torino. Not just standing there, but wondering how the beer came into my hand that Olaf (the Olympic champion in the single) forced there. Mahe, the Kiwi world champion in the single from this year laughing. He looks down from his two meter high vieuw and wonders I am not guzzling the really tasty beer like he is. Lassi, my mate from Sweden is standing beside me and feels more at home with these giants of the world rowing elite. I am just wondering what he hell made me come here…..how hard are these bastard going to kick my but on the daunting 11km stretch of river that is sparkling in the lights of the warm Italian eavening. What I am I doing here? I beling on my little lake in Stockolm. Than I luckily find an answer…yeah, because I decided to be here a few months ago to challenge myself! It is the only way forward! Fall, hard and get better of it quick. You never get any better by just beating your own expectations on trainings at home. No, just go out, face the world’s best and see what happens. With a little smile on my face I start pouring the tasty beer into my mouth. Hell…there are carbohadrytes in that as well.
It was 18:00 when I got of the water,…when are we eating?
I am now sitting on my bed waiting to go out to a sponsored dinner with those guys. Man I am so hungry I could eat the sofa.
